Calligraphy is my encore career and I couldn't be more exited about it!
Before calligraphy, I owned and operated a family business for nearly 25 years. We closed our company during the pandemic. At the time, I was too young to retire and wanted to find something that would speak to my artistic side. I've taken art courses through high school and university and drew, painted and lettered my whole life.
As an art form Calligraphy is incredibly varied. It has been a joy to learn different forms of pen and ink calligraphy such as copperplate and modern pointed pen styles as well as broad edge ones such as Carolingian, italic and Bone Scripts. My next foray was into engraving calligraphy on glass, metal, stone, wood and leather. It is incredible to be able to transcribe the beauty of calligraphy onto all these materials. Being able to paint again after so much time has passed, this time painting lovely flowers on glass bottles, is an incredible feeling not to mention super fun.
These days I am also very grateful to be able to share my passion for Calligraphy through teaching with Sip and Script, a national calligraphy teaching company, as their Las Vegas Instructor. I love meeting and giving instruction to my enthusiastic students. I get an incredible high after each and every class because I love interacting with my students and getting to talk about Calligraphy for nearly two hours!
More about me:
I have been married for 30 years and have two children. Our son is 26 and works in fashion. Our daughter is 23 and is finishing up her final year of University in the Visual Arts. She named my new business, "Flourished by Grace."
I lived overseas for half my life (Taiwan and Japan) but am now based in Nevada. I am extremely fortunate that I was able to travel extensively all over the world with my family. All my travels have really influenced my art and my worldview.
I love reading and baking desserts. I need to start my mornings with a good cappuccino. I love the outdoors and feel so energized walking or hiking in fresh air. I grew up in Pennsylvania and will always long for those beautiful rolling hills. One of my favorite places in the world is the Great Meadow in Sequoia National Park..
